Singapore 2025: Houlden repeats fourth-place feat as men’s springboard events conclude
Great Britain’s Jordan Houlden once again narrowly missed out on a medal at the World Aquatics Championships 2025 in Singapore, as his valiant effort in the Men’s 3m Springboard final saw him end-up as the highest European finisher in fourth place.
The 27-year-old repeated the finish he made in the 1m event earlier in the week, as once again his otherwise-impressive six dives from the boards saw him miss out on the medals in a field that provided arguably one of the strongest finals in recent memory.
Despite never dropping below 70 points on any of his individual dives, with his first four dives seeing him in fifth place with two dives to go thanks to a solid Inward 3 ½ Somersaults Tuck (407C) on round two, he never did break on to the podium places.
Although Mexico’s Olvera Ibarra and China’s Yuan Cao and Zongyuan Wang did eventually storm home to respective gold, silver and bronze, it was Houlden who led the charge to close that gap. Two huge scores of 91.80 and 95.00 over his final two dives, with the latter being a Forward 4 ½ Somersaults Tuck (109C) to round-off his effort as he finished on a score of 492.10 – a couple of dozen points off the bronze with one of the highest non-medal winning scores to date.
“I felt great, there was a few dives in there that were a little iffy, but I think I put a solid performance together,” said Houlden following the competition.
“The standard in that was absolutely amazing. It’s good to see diving being performed up to this standard, it’s just getting harder and harder and you’ve got to just keep bringing your A-game really.
“I didn’t really have much expectations other than to come out here and enjoy myself and I did that.”
France’s Jules Bouyer finished just one position back in fifth, with his final dive being the same as Houlden’s and giving him a score of 85.50, and a total of 478.30.
Germany’s Moritz Wesemann also recorded a strong set of results as he took sixth with a score of 467.10.
