Multiple weighlifting champion Nazik Avdalyan, who brought Armenia gold medals from international, as well as European tournaments, has made a decision to end her career sports.

Her coach, Pashik Alaverdyan, said Monday that the female weighlifting star has issued a statement to announce her plan, citing family reasons as her major concern at the moment.

“She is not going to train and participate in competitions,” he told a news conference.

Avdalyan's groundbreaking success was in 2009 when she won the top prize in the World Weightlifting Championship in Goyang, South Korea, becoming the first ever weightligting champion of the independent Republic of Armenia.

She took a long pause after a major car crash in 2011 to return to the big sports only four years later. Avdalyan participated in the World Weightlifting Championship in 2015, winning the 14th place (105+125).

In the 2016 European Championship in Norway, she earned the champion's title. Avdalyan had been named  Champion of Europe also in 2008.

In the 2016 Rio Olympics, the weightlifting legend won gold with a 242kg result. She is the Sixth Champion of Armenia.
