European Aquatics is proud to unveil its 2025 Athlete Ambassador Pilot Project, an exciting new initiative designed to enhance visibility, deepen community engagement, and promote the organisation’s core values across all aquatic disciplines. This pilot marks a significant step toward building stronger connections between elite athletes, fans, grassroots communities, and key stakeholders.

Throughout the year, a selection of Europe’s most respected and recognisable athletes will represent European Aquatics at major events, social responsibility campaigns, and media activations. These ambassadors will lend their voices, experience, and influence to elevate the profile of aquatics and support vital initiatives.

Among the confirmed ambassadors is Italian star Roberta Bianconi, who has been appointed as the ambassador for the Women’s Champions League Final Four on 2nd and 3rd May, which will see the debut of the initiative. An Olympic and world medallist, her role will focus on promoting the event, interacting with fans and media, and supporting European Aquatics’ mission to increase the visibility of women’s water polo across Europe.

Pernille Blume, Olympic gold medallist in the 50m freestyle from Rio 2016, will serve as the official ambassador for the European Aquatics Swimming Short Course Championships in Lublin, Poland this December. The Dane will take part in commentary, marketing and community engagement during her time at the competition.

In support of Aquatics Social Responsibility (ASR) initiatives, European Aquatics will partner with Olympic champion Sharon Van Rouwendaal. As an ASR Ambassador, the two-time Olympic gold medallist in open water swimming will contribute to projects such as Swim Safe Europe, highlighting key pillars like safety, sustainability, and community engagement. She will make an appearance at this year’s European Aquatics Congress in Georgia – engaging with sponsors and contribute to media outreach, helping amplify the reach and impact of ASR efforts.

Looking ahead, the Athlete Ambassador for the Men’s Water Polo Champions League Final Four, scheduled to take place in Valletta, Malta, from 30th May – 1st June, will be announced shortly. The selected player will join the event’s broadcast team for commentary, take part in community activities, and feature in a recap show, alongside additional responsibilities in media and hospitality.

By placing athletes at the forefront of its outreach and promotional efforts, European Aquatics is committed to building a more inclusive, visible, and trusted sporting community. The Athlete Ambassador Pilot Project is not only a celebration of the athletes’ achievements but also an investment in the future of the sport. Pending the success of the scheme, subsequent editions in the following years are planned.
