living on the edge [musings of an aquatic ape]

0 3

Brixham is at the end of a peninsula on the western fringe of Lyme Bay; and more locally the edge of Torbay. Torbay so named because it is a bay surrounded by small tors. Since moving here from the Big Wen three and a half years ago, life has been full of physical and mental activities. Work, which I thought would diminish, has continued to flow in and take me here and there around the globe. No work locally, except of the unpaid nature, but I’m working on that.

I’ve become considerably less obsessed with swimming. As a friend of mine, Bryn, observed, the Aquatic Ape has retired to some degree. I still swim in the sea, hanging out with the wonderful crew of the Torbay Shoal, and we regularly walk the coast path to this or that hard-to-get-to cove, splashing in the waves, navigating rock piles, saying hi to seals and marvelling in the profundity of life in the seas hereabouts. But I no longer have a desire to swim massive distances, be a polar bear or suffer daily wobbles from cold immersion.
