Alexander Earns His E Rating! (Other other announcements)

0 29

We had quite a number of fencers represent the AAFA at Greensboro Fencing Academy’s inaugural sanctioned tournament!

The highlight is Alexander Cantero Gignac earning his E rating with an undefeated record throughout the day. He completed pools in 3rd seed (he had a 4 person pool, while others had a 5 person pool).

Alexander continued to dominate his elimination rounds with a close one in the semi-finals (15-13) against the number 2 seed from Greensboro. Then he went to work against number seed, winning 15-4.

Let’s not forget Lily Kube! Lily nearly went undefeated in the pools (we think she should have been undefeated in the pools as well because we didn’t necessarily agree with all the calls, but fencers have to deal with that sometimes). Lily only lost one in the pools, which seeded her at 5th going into the elimination rounds!  Lily is also a senior member of the 2023-2024 Championship Homeschool Fencing Team!

Lily took it all the way to the semi-finals round, but lost to the number one seed. However, she secured another award for the AAFA taking 3rd place!

Some more hardware: Andrew Wiggs also takes a third place trophy home in the mixed sabre.

Some honorable mentions, AAFA Alum, Grace Guevarra, fencing for Appalachian State University took 18th and Paxxon Fernandez took 19th in the foil event. Paxxon also fenced in the epee event, taking 15th place.

Spell fenced in the saber event taking 11th place!
