Bulgaria and Italy End Russian Dominance on Final Day of Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships

Hosts Bulgaria and Italy ended Russia's dominance of the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships as the event concluded in Sofia today.

Bulgaria clinched the five hoops title, while Italy were the victors in the three balls and two ropes competition at the Arena Armeec.

Russia had only a solitary silver medal to celebrate on the final day following gold medals in the first seven events in the Bulgarian capital.

World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships Ready to Return to Bulgaria

Bulgaria is set to welcome the world's top athletes for the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Sofia, which will also offer Olympic qualification for Tokyo 2020.

The Arena Armeec will stage an event which is the first competition in any of the gymnastic disciplines to offer Olympic berths.

Bulgaria has previously hosted the Championships in 1969 and 1987 but these events took place in Varna.

Two bronze medals for Bulgaria from the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship in Guadalajara, Spain.

On the first day of the championship on Friday, Simona Diankova, Elena Bineva, Madlen Radukanova, Laura Traats and Stephanie Kiriakova impressed the audience with their phenomenal performance of 5 hoops, which earned a record high score of 23, 100 points.

On Saturday, our girls made a mistake in their composition with three balls and two ropes and were rated 18,650.
