Loan Watch: Three Return & Valuable Minutes For Youngsters
There are currently 15 Hibs players out on loan, so hibernianfc.co.uk has taken a look to see how they’ve got on over the festive period.
Upon the transfer window opening on Wednesday 1 January, 2025, Murray Aiken, Reuben McAllister, and Rory Whittaker all returned to the Club.
Murray Johnson & Murray Aiken - Airdrieonians
Murray Aiken returned to HTC at the start of the month after the conclusion of his loan spell with the Scottish Championship club.
During his time at the Albert Bartlett Stadium this season he made 19 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal. That goal came at the end of August in a 2-2 draw with Hamilton Academical.
Since early November, Murray Johnson’s game-time has been fairly limited with him being named on the substitutes' bench. So far this season, though, he’s made 13 appearances in all competitions, keeping two clean sheets. The goalkeeper’s loan is for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.
Airdrieonians currently sit 10th in the second-tier of Scottish football.
Reuben McAllister - Cove Rangers
Reuben McAllister is another player that’s returned to Hibernian FC this month.
The 18-year-old central midfielder has made nine appearances in all competitions, starting in four consecutive Scottish League One and Scottish Cup games between the end of November and early December.
Cove Rangers currently sit fourth in the third-tier of Scottish football.
Rory Whittaker - Spartans
Rory Whittaker also returned to the Club at the beginning of January.
The 17-year-old right-back made 11 appearances for Spartans after making his loan switch in the summer. Most recently he started in their 1-0 win over Edinburgh City.
Spartans currently sit sixth in the William Hill League Two table.
Jacob MacIntyre - Kelty Hearts
Jacob MacIntyre has extended his loan spell at Kelty Hearts until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
During the first half of the season, the midfielder has been ever-present for Kelty making 11 appearances in all competitions since his loan switch at the end of September. During that time, he scored two goals, bagging a brace against Arbroath, and got one assist.
Kelty Hearts currently sit third in Scottish League One, four points off the top of the table.
Dylan Vente - PEC Zwolle
Striker Dylan Vente has started all but one of PEC Zwolle’s Eredivisie games this season and has bagged four goals in 16 league games.
The 25-year-old scored three goals in three league games back in September, and fired home in their final game before the winter break against RKC Waalwijk before Christmas.
PEC Zwolle currently sit 13th in the Dutch top-flight. Their next game is this weekend against NEC.
Kanayo Megwa - Partick Thistle
Kanayo Megwa joined Partick Thistle in the middle of September and has gone on to make 11 appearances in the Scottish Championship.
The right-back started a string of games up until the middle of November, and has since worked his way back into the side, starting their first game of 2025 against Dunfermline.
Partick Thistle are fourth in the second-tier of Scottish football with 32 points from 20 games.
Allan Delferrière - Racing Union Lëtzebuerg
Defensive midfielder Allan Delferrière has received a lot of First Team minutes since his loan move to the Luxemburg side.
He’s made 11 appearances in all competitions for Racing Union Lëtzebuerg, who currently sit third in the league table. They’ve only lost twice this season.
Jair Tavares - Motherwell
Jair has featured sporadically for Motherwell since he made the switch on Deadline Day in the summer.
The winger, who has also played centrally for Stuart Kettlewell’s side, has made eight appearances to date, starting two games at the start of December.
Motherwell currently sit fifth in the William Hill Premiership.
Nohan Kenneh - Ross County
Nohan Kenneh has had a positive start to his loan spell at Ross County.
The defensive midfielder has started both games since his loan switch at the start of this month, and was named in the SPFL Team of the Week after his performance against Kilmarnock.
Ross County currently sit ninth in the William Hill Premiership.
Kyle McClelland - Coleraine
Young centre-half Kyle McClelland has featured frequently for Northern Irish side Coleraine.
He’s made 23 appearances for the Club in all competitions, and they currently sit 8th in the NIFL Premiership.
Oscar MacIntyre - Queen of the South
Oscar MacIntyre has been enjoying his football with Queen of the South since his loan move.
The young left-back has made 25 appearances in all competitions and has one assist to his name.
Queen of the South currently sit sixth in the William Hill League One table.
Malik Zaid - Edinburgh City
Malik Zaid only recently joined Edinburgh City on loan and made his second debut for the Meadowbank side as they beat Bonnyrigg 2-0 away from home.
Edinburgh City currently sit fourth in the fourth-tier of Scottish football, five points off the top of the table.
The right winger spent the first half of the season at Annan Athletic in Scottish League One and made 15 appearances, scoring one goal.
Freddie Owens - Civil Service Strollers
Since his loan move to Civil Service Strollers, the young goalkeeper has been virtually ever-present for the Lowland League side making 29 appearances in all competitions.
Civil Service Strollers currently sit 11th in the 18-team league with 24 points from 20 games.
Owen Calder - Berwick Rangers
Finally, Owen Calder has got his first taste of senior football out on loan with Berwick Rangers.
Owen has featured eight times (all starts) for the Lowland League outfit, playing the majority of his minutes at left-back.
The deal was initially a short-term loan, however, both clubs have now agreed to extend his loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.
