Look! The Mets got another day off!
The Mets will once again start a series tonight after a day off. They actually have two scheduled days off this week – thankfully the weather looks good for the two game series against the Red Sox as the Mets look to get some rhythm in a year without it.
The Mets got back on the right track on Sunday, taking the series from the Nationals after a great performance by Taijuan Walker, who held Washington to three hits and three walks and no runs over seven innings.
Miguel Castro and Edwin Diaz shut the door behind Walker and the Mets were able to ride homers from J.D. Davis and Pete Alonso to victory. The margin of victory probably should have been larger – umpiring cost the Mets in a big scenario when ball four with the bases loaded to Nimmo was called strike three and the inning ended. But the Mets were able to keep pushing forward despite that.

David Peterson looks to keep the Mets in the win column tonight against the Red Sox. In three starts this year he has allowed 13 runs, ten earned over 13.1 innings with a 6.75 ERA, 4.45 FIP, 1.350 WHIP and a 58 ERA+. His last start against the Cubs was weighed down with defensive miscues leading to six runs over 3.1 innings, with only three of them being earned. Peterson’s major league debut was against the Red Sox last year. He allowed two runs from seven hits and two walks over 5.2 innings.
The Red Sox have the following numbers against Peterson:

The Mets bats will get a look at Garret Richards today. Richards was a relief pitcher for the Angels from 2011 to 2018 and had a two season stint with the Padres. Richards has made four starts over 16.2 innings this year with a 6.48 ERA, 5.74 FIP, 1.860 WHIP and a 67 ERA+.
His first start of the season against the Orioles was his worst so far, he allowed six runs over two innings. Then in back to back starts he allowed four runs, only two earned over ten innings. He’s coming off of a rough start against the Blue Jays where he allowed four runs over 4.2 innings from four hits and six walks.

Brandon Nimmo is dealing with a mild impingement in his right hip, he is not in the lineup for the Mets tonight because he received a shot yesterday. Luis Rojas said the team expects Nimmo to be available off the bench this evening, and he should be back in the lineup on Wednesday night.
