The next great Cincinnati Reds win streak begins today

Can the Reds turn this whole thing around?

Elly De La Cruz swiped another pair of bags on another 2-hit night, Spencer Steer was on base a trio of times (and bonked in a pair of runs), and Stuart Fairchild had one of the plays of the year with a pinch-hit inside-the-park home-run that hyphen-enthusiasts world-wide have been waiting in-earnest-for their-entire-lives.

The end result? A victory for the Cincinnati Reds in their series opener against the San Francisco Giants, a win that finally gave them a victory in the month of May...on May the 11th, eastern time.

It ended an 8-game losing streak, a streak that compounded with their sub-par play before the actual ‘streak’ that sunk them within earshot of last place in the National League Central. I bring that up not to stoke fear, really, but rather so I can point out that the St. Louis Cardinals are buried in the basement of the division, and that’s something worth pointing out each and every time it actually happens.

Cincinnati’s season be not doomed, just yet. There are still over 120 games left to play this year, there are a litany of injured Redlegs who will presumably provide a boost at some point, and there’s always the trade deadline for Nick Krall to sit out, too. That said, getting back to the kind of play that propelled this 2024 club earlier in the year (and the 2023 club when things were humming) is paramount to making any of that relevant later on. In other words, taking extra bases, pushing the envelope with their speed, and finding ways to smash the ball to all corners with aplomb.

Doing so again tonight would mark a 2nd victory in a row, and that many victories in a row begins to constitute a streak - this time of the good variety.
