Day Three Recap: Champions Crowned Across the Pool in UL

Day three of the 2025 Irish National Age Group Championships took place today in the UL Arena, with twenty-three national gold medals up for grabs throughout an exciting day of racing.

Aer Lingus completed a relay double this morning, winning gold in both the Open and Girls 200m Medley Relay with times of 2:25.57 (Open) and 2:20.64 (Girls). In the Open 400m Medley Relay (13/14yrs), Glenalbyn stopped the clock first to win gold in a time of 4:34.38, while Bangor picked up gold in the Girls’ event with a time of 4:44.45.

Callum Brown won gold in the Open 800m Freestyle 13yrs category in 9:38.98, while Logan Wiggins claimed the 14yrs title with a time of 9:09.59.

The Open 100m Freestyle was the first scheduled race this evening, with the finalists in the 12yrs category heading to the blocks first. Alvar Joakit of Wexford bagged another medal, winning gold in 1:02.52. Luka Griffin (Cookstown) clocked 58.21 to win the 13yrs national title, while the 14yrs race was won by Dara Hynes (Portadown) in 57.41.

Chloe Stewart of Bangor went 4:43.38 to claim top spot on the podium in the 12/13yrs Girls 400m Freestyle final, while Stewart’s teammate Rebecca Lavery recorded 4:35.26 to win the 14yrs national gold.

There was an electric atmosphere in the UL Arena as the Open 200m Breaststroke competitors headed to the blocks. Tallaght swimmer Eamonn Li touched the wall first in 2:56.74 to win gold in the 12yrs category. Cookstown’s Luka Griffin was first home in the 13yrs event, taking gold in 2:46.62. The 14yrs race resulted in a thrilling joint-gold finish, with Fionn Walker (Drogheda) and Logan Wiggins (Bangor) going stroke for stroke to both finish in 2:38.96.

Rinah Ho of NAC won gold in the 12yrs Girls 100m Backstroke with a time of 1:15.36. Another Dublin club, Trojan, also claimed gold as swimmer Juliet Cotter finished in 1:10.12 to win the 13yrs title. Bangor’s Rebecca Lavery stood atop the podium once again, winning the 14yrs category in 1:07.36.

Wexford’s Alvar Joakit topped the podium for the second time tonight, winning the Open 100m Backstroke (12yrs) in 1:13.51. Haochen Li (Tallaght) clocked 1:07.21 to bag the 13yrs gold. In the 14yrs race, Dolphin swimmer Lev Lobanets continued to impress, taking national gold in 1:04.19.

The Girls 200m Breaststroke was the final event of the evening, with the 12yrs swimmers up first. Quinn Allen (Aer Lingus) was first home in 2:54.72 to win the national title. Chloe Stewart (Bangor) returned to the podium to claim another gold, clocking 2:49.02 in the 13yrs category. The 14yrs gold was won by Milena Zorychta (Tallaght) in 2:45.25.

The final day of competition gets underway tomorrow morning at 8:45 a.m.
