Germany and Hungary set to host five 2026 European Aquatics Junior Championship events
European Aquatics is pleased to announce that Germany will host the Junior Swimming and Junior Artistic Swimming Championships in 2026.
It can also announce that the other three Junior Championships next year – for diving, high diving and open water swimming – are to be staged in Hungary.
It will be the first time that the Junior Swimming Championships, which are scheduled from July 7 to 12, have been staged in Germany in the last 40 years.
And Germany will also host the Junior Artistic Swimming Championships from June 30 to July 4.
“I am very happy to confirm that the European Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships and Artistic Swimming Championships next year will be hosted by Germany, and that Hungary will stage our Junior Diving, High Diving and Open Water Swimming Championships,” said European Aquatics President Antonio Silva.
“Two nations with a proud history in the sport will offer Europe’s most talented junior aquatics athletes the opportunity to compete in environments that will promote excellence and sustainability.”
As preparations progress in close collaboration with the German Swimming Federation, further details will be confirmed, with key aspects being finalised in the coming weeks.
This year’s Junior Swimming Championships ran from July 1 to 6 at Samorin in Slovakia, which was making its debut as host of the event, preceding it with the staging of the second U23 Swimming Championships.
German athletes at the 2026 Junior Swimming Championships will hope to provide further success for their home fans following their showing in Samorin, where they were one of only four nations to earn double figures of medals, claiming 10, with Lena Ludwig winning gold in the women’s 200m breaststroke.
The strength of Hungarian open water swimmers at senior level – with Kristof Rasovszky and David Betlehem taking 10km gold and bronze respectively and Bettina Fabian finishing fifth in the women’s 10km at the Paris 2024 Games – is reflected in the performance of their juniors.
Home expectations at the Junior Open Water Championships will be high given their athletes’ showing at last month’s edition in Setubal, where Hungary won eight medals – more than any other nation – and finished second in the medals table with golds being provided by Napsugar Nagy in the Girls’ 7.5km J3 event and the mixed 6km relay U16 team.
