European Aquatics launches Intermediate Certification Course for water polo jury table officials

0 9

European Aquatics is delighted to announce the launch of a comprehensive education and certification programme for all water polo jury table officials in time for the 2025/2026 club season.

This initiative, which is part of European Aquatics’ Strategic Plan and Education Action Plan, aims to ensure the correct and consistent application of water polo rules across all four European Aquatics club competitions – Champions League, Euro Cup, Conference Cup and Challenger Cup.

The Intermediate Certification Course – led by European Aquatics’ Technical Water Polo Officials manager Dejan Perisic and World Water Polo Referee Association president Boris Margeta – will be held on Saturday, 12th July 2025 at 10:00 CET via the European Aquatics Education platform.

This live webinar will also be available on demand afterwards for those not available to attend the initial lectures, providing maximum flexibility for all officials across Europe.

Registration – which costs 40€ – will open from Wednesday 2nd July 2025 and can be found by clicking here.

For the 2025/26 club competition season, each host team is required to provide at least six water polo jury table officials (two secretaries, two timekeepers, two assistant referees/goal judges) who hold an Intermediate Certification and are aged 18 or over.

If these conditions are not met by the organising club, the game cannot be played and the result will be registered in favour of the visiting team.

European Aquatics’ programme to develop all jury table officials – which has been created in close collaboration with the European Aquatics Water Polo Department – involves a structured three-level certification pathway – Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced – and each step is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to progress and officiate at the highest level.

Jury table officials currently recognised by their National Federations will automatically be considered Basic certified. By enrolling on the European Aquatics Education platform, these officials will gain access to further development opportunities, including eligibility for the Intermediate level.

Officials aged 18 and older can advance by completing an online Intermediate course, passing a comprehensive water polo rules test, and receiving National Federation recognition.

This certification will open up the opportunity to officiate at all European Aquatics water polo competitions, strengthening the consistency and professionalism of jury tables across the continent.

All European Aquatics water polo referees who hold Intermediate Certification in the 2025/2026 season will also be recognised at this level for jury table duties.

The top tier – Advanced Certification – is reserved for those who complete the Advanced Certification Course before the concluding stages of the 2025/26 European club competitions and European Championships.

Similarly, water polo referees with Advanced Certification will be deemed advanced jury table officials, and ready to oversee the sport’s most prestigious matches.
