The European Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships 2025, which will run at Slovakia’s National Olympic Training Centre in Samorin from July 1 to 6, will provide a “great pathway” to senior competition according to Craig Hunter, chair of the EA Technical Swimming Committee.

He believe huge opportunities beckon for the 666 athletes from 45 individual nations entered for competition at the outdoor pool within the state-of-the-art x-bionic sphere.

“We have probably the best and most sophisticated junior programme, and 2025 is no exception in that respect,” Hunter told European Aquatics.

“So we have a great pathway for junior competitors going into the senior. It’s tough to get to the senior level, but I think at what we have seen at junior competition in Europe over the last few years the standard continues to be raised.

“And I think we will see some of those swimmers knocking on the door to make the teams and make some finals and semi-finals in Singapore as well.”

The 308 female swimmers and 358 male swimmers will be taking part in the second of two prestigious events at this handsomely appointed training complex close to the capital of Bratislava.

The European Aquatics U23 Swimming Championships concluded at the outdoor pool yesterday, marked by a European 100m freestyle record from Romania’s 20-year-old Olympic champion David Popovici.

Italy will be the single nation with the largest team at the Junior Championships, having selected 38 athletes.

Spain and Germany each number 35, with France on 29, Great Britain on 28, Turkiye – whose team includes    – on 26, Switzerland on 25 and hosts Slovakia, Hungary and Poland all bringing 24 swimmers.

Andorra has named one swimmer, while Cyprus and Kosovo will be each be represented by two athletes. A total of 43 neutral AIN athletes will be taking part.
