Safety and Training Guidelines for Developing Breath Control & Underwater Kicking Ability

0 0

Swim Ireland have today published Safety and Training Guidelines for Developing Breath Control & Underwater Kicking Ability.

Swim Ireland recognises that breath hold training is an area of ongoing concern for both pool operators and club coaches. In response, we have developed this guidance to provide clear, evidence-based information alongside practical advice to support the safe and effective development of swimmers.

A key message we wish to emphasise is that breath control training must always be conducted under the supervision of appropriately qualified personnel and should be introduced in a progressive, structured manner to ensure athlete safety and long-term development.

The guidance document has been produced by Swim Ireland Performance with review and input from Dr Kevin Boyd, Consultant in Orthopaedic & Sports Injuries, member of the British Association of Sport & Exercise Medicine, and World Aquatics Medical & Anti-Doping Delegate between 2011-2023.
