European Aquatics hosts successful diving officials course in Bergen
European Aquatics successfully delivered the 2025 Level 1 Diving Officials Basic Certification Course, which saw a new group of aspiring international judges join the fold as part of its commitment to developing the next generation of diving officials.
The course was structured in two parts, beginning with an online session on 26th April, followed by an intensive in-person segment in Bergen, Norway, from 30th April – 2nd May. This blended approach allowed participants to engage with foundational material in advance, before applying their learning in a practical, real-world setting.
A total of nine participants took part in the course, which was designed specifically for new candidates aiming to become certified international diving officials. The programme combined theoretical knowledge with practical training, culminating in both a practical skills evaluation and a final theoretical test.
Lectures and workshops were grounded in the European Aquatics Diving Officials Path, offering detailed instruction on rules application, judging protocols, and the culture of excellence that underpins officiating in the sport. The initiative is aligned with the European Aquatics Strategic Plan 2024–2030, which places a strong emphasis on education as a pillar of sustainable sporting development.
In addition to the nine new candidates, several experienced officials also engaged with the course, continuing their development following the Diving Officials’ Certification Refreshment Clinic held on March 1st–2nd. Their presence added valuable perspective and mentorship throughout the course.
European Aquatics President Antonio Silva, reiterated the ethos of the European Aquatics Academy, and the wider organisation, in his welcome message to participants:
“Education is the key force empowering the progress in everything we do”, he said. “Whether you’re an athlete, coach, official, or technical official, continuous learning and skills advancement help us all improve. By investing in education, we ensure our sport remains fair, innovative, and constantly evolving.”
