European Aquatics is excited to unveil Open Water Cup – Beyond the Buoy, a brand-new video magazine series launching for the 2025 Open Water Cup season. Moving away from traditional live-stream coverage, this fresh approach is designed to offer fans a deeper, more intimate look at the stories behind the races. Each episode will go beyond the results to focus on the people, the places, and the passion that drive open water swimming across Europe.

For every stage of the series, Beyond the Buoy will deliver two distinct episodes. The first will be a preview, released the afternoon before race day, offering insight into the course, conditions, and the athletes to watch. The second, a wrap-up episode, will follow in the evening after the race or the next morning, capturing key moments from the competition, reactions from athletes, and behind-the-scenes features. Through this new format, European Aquatics aims to highlight not only the performances but also the natural beauty of each host location, as well as the stories of coaches, officials, and support staff who play a vital role in the sport.

Adding star power and a new perspective to the series, world and European open water swimming champion Leonie Beck will serve as one of the show’s regular presenters. Joining her is aquatics broadcasting veteran Nick Hope, along with other guest hosts who will rotate throughout the season. For Beck, the new role marks an exciting transition from athlete to media personality.

Both Beck (left) and Hope (right) will be leading the coverage throughout the Open Water Cup series.

“I’m thrilled to be presenting the Open Water Cup coverage and to experience the sport I love from a completely new perspective,” Beck said. “It’s a great opportunity to bring fans even closer to the athletes, the atmosphere, and all the behind-the-scenes moments. It’s a new adventure for me – and I can’t wait to get started in Cyprus!”

Nick Hope, who himself has been a stalwart of aquatics media for several years, also gave his thoughts on the announcement.

“Innovation is crucial to all sports and it’s really great to have been given the opportunity to shine a light on some of the existing as well as emerging talents this amazing sport has in abundance,” said Hope. “Personally, it’s been an honour to interview Leonie after so many of her major successes and while we hope to see her back in the water in the not-too-distant future, I’m looking forward to hearing some of the fascinating insights and untold stories she will bring to our EA Open Water Cup coverage in 2025!”

Open Water Cup – Beyond the Buoy will be available to watch free of charge on European Aquatics’ official digital channels. As anticipation builds for the season opener in Cyprus, fans can look forward to a dynamic new way of following the Open Water Cup – one that dives deep into the personalities, places, and unforgettable moments that shape each race.
