EA President Silva signs strategic deal in meeting with Azerbaijan Sports Minister
European Aquatics has signed a wide-ranging co-operation agreement with the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation (AZF).
This took place during a visit to the Azerbaijan capital of Baku by the EA President Antonio Silva at which he met the recently re-elected Sports and Youth Minister and President of European Gymnastics, Dr Farid Gayibov.
The AZF was represented by its President, Zaur Aliyev, its Vice President Xhaliq Ildirimzadeh and its general secretary Ogtay Atayev, while President Silva was accompanied by Ist VP Josip Varvodic.
The agreement will see EA supporting the AZF in a strategic action plan aligned with its own, fostering growth in aquatic sports at national level.
There will be four main areas of focus.
The first will be on athletes’ development from grassroots through to performance level in all aquatic disciplines, but specially in swimming/open water swimming, water polo, diving and artistic swimming. There is also the possibility of creating a scholarship programme in strong co-operation with universities.
The second key area will be the education of coaches and officials and the implementation of tailor-made solutions.
There will be further implementation on the theme of Swim Safe Europe in all territories, promoting aquatic sports as a vehicle for saving lives through learning to swim and thus preventing drowning.
And there will be further specific areas of co-operation including the organisation of events that encourage participation in aquatic disciplines.
European Aquatics remains committed to working alongside national federations and academic institutions to drive excellence and accessibility in aquatic sports, ensuring a vibrant future for the sport across Europe.
