Club Pointscore – 2023

0 1

In lieu of running stand alone Club Championships we have introduced a club Pointscore for the 2023 year. There are 3 separate pointscores that will be calculated for all club swimmers. Awards for each will be presented at the annual Christmas Party in December. The categories swimmers will be competing is are as follows:

  1. Club Night Age Champions
  2. Club Age Champions
  3. Overall Club Champions

Goals and purpose

We have developed the system to encourage participation at both Woden club meets as well as reward swimmers who perform well at a range of meets – including Swimming ACT meets and State or National Championships.

The Club Night Age Champion awards are specifically designed to encourage participation at a club level, fostering club pride and teamwork. As well as rewarding swimmers who swim a range of events and continue to improve their performances.

The Club Age Champion awards are designed to reward high achievers and encourage excellence. It will reward those swimmers who are racing at a high level in their age group.

The Overall Club Champion will reward swims at the highest level throughout the year, irrespective of age and gender.

Club Night Age Champions

Our Club Night Age Champions will be awarded to registered club swimmers based on a cumulative pointscore across club nights throughout the 2023 year. Points are awarded for improvement and participation. This pointscore uses the Swimming ACT Development pointscore system, as outlined below.

All club nights throughout the year count towards the score. There is no minimum number of attendances or swims. Swimmers who swim at club nights more regularly, and swim a range of events, are able to maximise their potential pointscore.

Age is calculated for the club calendar year – i.e. age at 31 December 2023.

Improvement points are awarded based on the improvement on the time first set at a club night swim within the calendar year. A club night swim may be faster or slower than a previous swim at another meet. Improvement is only measured against club night swims of that distance and stroke, not any time the event is swum at another meet.

Swimmers receive at least 1 point for every swim (2 for the first time they swim an event in the club year).  A maximum of 5 points can be gained for a swim over 3 seconds faster than their last club night swim (3 improvement points plus 1 participation point).

Club Age Champions

This award is calculated using HYTEK Age points. It takes into account the ‘best’ (highest HYTEK Age score) 4 performances across the year across all meets. Points are calculated for any swim for registered swimmers at any of: An official club night, Swimming ACT, Swimming NSW, Swimming Australia or other state event, provided the time is official.

This rewards fast swims at all meets and also allows for competition in events that we don’t offer regularly or at all at club meets.

We will allow one ‘best’ score per event (i.e. a swimmer can’t do 4x the same stroke / length to maximise their score). We require a minimum of 2 strokes (IM counts as a second stroke).

By taking the highest scoring result we encourage swimmers to continue to improve an already high scoring event.

By requiring more than 1 stroke a swimmer who is only strong in 1 stroke i.e. freestyle would not have an advantage over a swimmer who is strong across more than 1 stroke, or in a form stroke where there are less events.

Age is calculated for the club calendar year – i.e. age at 31 December 2023

MastersMasters

Multiclass swimmers will be ranked against their relevant world records for their multiclass classification. Masters Swimmers will be ranked against their relevant age category Master’s records.

The Club Champion pointscore will be updated with times from official meets on a regular basis. The table on the Club Age Champion page will let swimmers know which are their current highest scoring swims. http://wodenswimclub.org.au/pointscore-club-age-champions/

Note that there is sometimes a delay of several weeks in obtaining results files from interstate meets. The pointscores are updated on a regular basis and will be finalised with all results before the awards BBQ and presentation.

Overall Club Champions

This award recognises the swimmers who have performed at the very highest level at any meet throughout the calendar year. We will award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the swimmers with the 3 highest point scores

Scores are calculated using HYTEK Age in the same manner as the Club Age Champions – the 4 highest scoring swims for any registered club swimmer across all swims in the calendar year. Individual events are only counted once each. The top 4 scoring swims have to be across a minimum of 2 strokes.

HYTEK Age allows for age and gender so this award will be for swimmers who have swum times throughout the year that are competitive at a state and national level.

The Overall Club Champion pointscore will show who are the top 3 highest point scoring swimmers in the club: http://wodenswimclub.org.au/pointscore-overall-club-champions/

Swimmers can use the Club Champion pointscore tables to see which swims make up their overall score: http://wodenswimclub.org.au/pointscore-club-age-champions/

Note that there is sometimes a delay of several weeks in obtaining results files from interstate meets. The pointscores are updated on a regular basis and will be finalised with all results before the awards BBQ and presentation.
