On Behalf of LEN, President Antonio Silva was invited to present the opening speech for the current academic year to students studying for a Master’s Degree in Sports Business Management at the University of Vigo in Galicia, Spain.

The degree is ranked in the Top 20 of the World’s best postgraduate sport administration degrees by Sport Business International.

President Silva’s presentation covered the following topics, with particular focus on the importance, and challenges, of managing significant change within sport organisations.

After an introduction describing the sport of Aquatics and the history, purpose and mission of LEN, President Silva outlined the political journey to the LEN extraordinary congress and elections on 5 February 2022.

As part of the discussion on and why change and reform was necessary, the President discussed the importance of the “Europe 4 all aquatics” movement  – which was an unusual, and broad, coalition of European national federations sharing a vision to make LEN an “innovative, inclusive and diverse Continental Organisation, underpinned by the highest standards of integrity, working tirelessly to develop aquatics and serve its Member Federations and other stakeholders.”

President Silva then presented the LEN Action Plan, Pillars, Actions and timelines, as a crucial part of the reform process.

“The Master’s degree in Sport Business Management aims to help students acquire the theoretical and practical competence and experience which will allow them to thrive within the sport industry, whether working at facilities, clubs, teams, events or in the private and public sport sectors.

“I sincerely hope that the presentation of LEN’s recent actions, and future vision, will help them understand the complexities of sport politics and management.”

The LEN President was accompanied in Vigo by Patrício Sanchez, Master Coordinator of the event, Javier Sánchez  Sellero, Vice Dean of Management and Tourism at Vigo University’s Science Faculty, and José Ramon Lette, General Secretary of Sports for Galicia and formerly President of Spain’s Consejo Superior de Deportes (Sport Ministry).
