IMG_1183Head Coach Martin Jurco writes: Last weekend 8 Leander swimmers participated in London Region Championships. This was the first part of the Championships with distance events for all age groups, most relays and Youth events (swimmers 15 and over).

As it was still the school holidays for many we started unusually on Friday at Crystal Palace with relays and distance events.

Our most successful team were the girls 14-16 medley team (Mia, Imogen, Megan and Kirstin) who came 5th out of 20. The girls freestyle team (Kirstin, Enerel, Lucy and Lily) came 12th overall. See the full results.

The boys 14-16 relay team (Tymek, Jack, Jordan and Jake) came 11th and 14th in medley and freestyle respectively.

In the distance events we had following successful swimmers:

  • 800m: Lucy 5th, Enerel 7th, Kirstin 7th
  • 1500m: Jordan 8th

We then moved to the beautiful London Aquatic Centre for the weekend where our 15 and older swimmers (Megan, Enerel, Lucy, Cecilia, Tyler, Aymeric, Tymek and Jack) continued to excel, reaching 21 finals and setting 29 personal best times. This was a long but very successful weekend with many swimmers learning how to manage the weekend and successfully swim in heats and then swim faster in the finals.

  • Megan 6 Finals, twice 4th place (100 Fly & 200 Medley)
  • Lucy 14th in 100 Free
  • Enerel 2 Finals, 7th in 100 Breast and 200 Medley
  • Cecilia 13th in 100 Breast
  • Tyler 3 Finals, 4th in 50 Back
  • Tymek 4 Finals, 5th in 200 Medley
  • Jack 2 Finals, 5th in 200 Fly
  • Aymeric 23rd in 200 Free

Our 14 and under swimmers are now preparing for the Age Group Championships in May with this weekend’s LSSA meet being the last chance qualifier.
