[Women's Cross Country] Olson signs to run for the Flames

OMAHA, Neb. – Summer Olson of Lakewood, Colo., signed her letter of intent to continue her education and running career at College of Saint Mary. Olson plans to run both cross country and track & field for the Flames.

The daughter of Todd and Kerri Olson is a senior at Green Mountain High School. Olson has been a three-sport athlete at Green Mountain all four years as she has also participated in swimming.

The 5-4 runner has a long list of accomplishments in high school including making it to state in both cross country and track & field, being named all-conference honorable mention in the 3,200 relay and earning academic all-state first team recognition three times.

Her favorite sports hero is Emma Coburn and outside of running she enjoys reading. Her greatest sports moment was "state cross country my senior year because I had an amazing race and really pushed  myself since I knew it was the last chance I would get to run a high school cross country meet with my fantastic teammates. That really motivated me to do my best and give it all I had left."

Olson plans to pursue exercise science at CSM and is excited to start in the fall.

"College of Saint Mary was my college choice because of the great atmosphere the cross country team has created and I love the feel of a small school," she said.

CSM Cross Country Coach Derek Fey is looking forward to having Olson on the squad.

"Summer is going to make an immediate impact this fall," Fey said. "I'm very excited to see how she progresses while at CSM. She fit in very well on her weekend visit and I know she will add to our team chemistry."
