When #THESWOOWS is in the house..... [Swim Diesel]

It's easy to talk about all the things a race director should have done differently. There's the old saying however - "Walk a mile in my shoes"... or in this case swim.

If you've been on social media recently you may have seen promotions for the swim series that Josh and I are working on together, The SWOOWS. Sunday was our first event under that banner. It was Father's Day and as such I put in an order for good weather. What we got was GREAT.

The night before was spent getting the course ready. I monkeyed around with the swim buoy course markers and cursed not having designed the things myself. With some adjustments I believe I will make my life easier next time I am putting them in. For the most part Josh and I had the course setup the way we wanted it by dark the night before. No midnight course laying this time.

On race day it was evident that Josh excels at running these types of events. He is well organized, knows what needs to be done, and is great at "putting on his teacher voice" and instructing the masses. He's done this a bunch of times now and I personally am grateful for it. Swimming can be a fun and wonderful sport but you want to be clear as to what you are doing before you get out there. I have been to races where the "clarifications" have gone on for seemingly forever which indicates that either the course is silly, or the race director didn't communicate well. That was not the case here.

Our 4km contestants went first which gave everyone on shore time to hang out, chit chat, strategize, and paint. Yes paint.

I realized a long time ago that getting kids involved was part of what I wanted to do. Yes it may deter some people from coming.... but it opens the doors up to others coming and gets kids in on the sport early.

While we didn't give them series points or prizes, they all got the same finisher race tags and caps that the adults did. They all left having had a blast and with smiles on their faces. Which is exactly what we wanted in the first place.

The 1km was the final event. My eldest son swam in this one. Watching him grow into a man's body has been fascinating. Seeing him excel and become a faster swimmer than me (or Josh) has only put a smile on my face. On this day he came in third.

The star of the day was our friend and warrior Ignacio (El Profesor). Ignacio did both races and ended up with the most points for the day.

Josh and I want to thank everyone who came out and supported the first swim of our new series #THESWOOWS.

We wouldn't have a successful event without wonderful people.

The next event in the series is the iconic NORTH SHORE CHALLENGE. To read a little more on that head on over to : http://www.swim-diesel.com/2018/04/the-4th-annual-north-shore-challenge.html

We hope to see you there.
