Low ebb but not flat

Hello Friends, Sunny and weirdly mild for an early August morning as Saturday got started. As expected, the swell faded overnight and we’re looking at waist high wave faces on the sets. Out at sea the waverider buoys were detecting a metre of 12-13 second SE swell.

Hello Friends, Partly cloudy skies and 7-13 kts of NNW wind as the day got started in Sydney. Surface conditions were looking reasonably clean when I grabbed the snaps from RealSurf’s crows nest this morning and wave faces looked to be in the waist to chest high range.

Hello Friends, We still have a few 13-second period sets coming in from the SE at pretty close to the same swell height (1.7 m) as yesterday. But that said, it definitely looked smaller as I drove along the beaches this morning.

Hello Friends, A nearly 16 second period for the 1.7 metre straight south swell means that the lines are very long so it’s refracting into the point at Dee Why and pretty much closing out along the open beach.

Hello Friends, The set wave above was easily the best thing I saw in my drive from Manly to Dee Why this morning. For the most part, even the best exposures were not seeing sets much above the chest-high mark.

Scrappy but surfable options in the dodgy water

Hello Friends, Swell’s running out of puff, but there were still waves to be had (so long as you don’t care about what might be in the water from the rain…). Out at sea it was 2.23m from the SE at 8 seconds apart, so the waves are considerably softer and noticeably smaller than yesterday.

Pumping at Dee Why on Sunday morning

Hello Friends, It was a morning for fit and experienced riders only at Dee Why point with set wave faces well overhead thanks to a 2-3 metre, 12-second period ESE swell. Wind was 8-10 kts from the west at 0800 and tide was coming into the high at 1155.

Hello Friends, Chilly and offshore as Saturday got started. Oh, and there’s 2-3 metres of 12-second SSE swell too. Magnets were seeing shoulder to head high plusses but because of the angle, other places are more in the waist to chest high range.
