Di Lorenzo: ‘Napoli have lost balance and belief – we feel fragile right now’ after 6-2 collapse
Napoli suffered a humiliating 6–2 defeat to PSV in the Champions League, and captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo did not hide his frustration or concern when speaking to Sky after the final whistle in Eindhoven.
The right-back admitted the team have “lost balance” and are struggling mentally compared to last season’s solidity after a disappointing night in the Netherlands.
“It was a horrible night,” Di Lorenzo told Sky.
“We need to stop, reflect and analyse what happened out there. We feel fragile right now, the opposite of last season when we were so solid.”
Di Lorenzo: ‘Napoli have lost our balance’
Di Lorenzo acknowledged that the team are trying to evolve offensively under their new approach, but said that cannot excuse the collapse.
“It’s true we’re trying something new in attack, but we conceded goals we should never concede,” he continued.
“We’ve lost our balance – that desire not to concede, that defensive mentality. We must all question ourselves.”
The captain admitted that Napoli no longer give off the feeling of being in control.
“Right now it feels like the opponent can hurt us at any moment,” he said. “That must change immediately.”
The defeat leaves Napoli facing serious pressure in their Champions League campaign, with concerns growing not only about results, but about the identity and mentality of a team that has sharply regressed from last season’s Scudetto-winning standards.
