Bannon: “It’s a great opportunity”

We caught up with new signing Alex Bannon as he joins the Candystripes on a year long loan from Burton Albion.

“I finished up my season but I heard from my agent that there was interest from Derry when I was on holiday.  Although its only a half season I think its a great opportunity.”

Bannon knows a few of his new team mates already from his time with Queens Park and Airdrie.

“Played against a few of them in Scotland and played with Adam last season.  All the boys have been brilliant so far”

Bannon backed up his managers view that he can offer an option across the back four.

“I like playing  multiple positions whether that is centre back, right back or in midfield.  I like to have the ball at my feet and start things off and get the ball forward as quick as possible and into dangerous areas.”

Bannon is here on loan until July 2026 and therefore will be present for remainder of the current season and the start of the next campaign.

“It will be good for me, it will give me chance to get to know everyone.  If I was only here for 5 months or so, it would be quite difficult to really get going”.
