Championship winning defender Euan Murray joins Queen’s Park
QUEEN’S PARK FC can confirm the arrival of defender Euan Murray as the latest addition to Sean Crighton’s squad.
The 31-year-old, who was Kilmarnock vice captain in their 2021-22 William Hill Championship title winning season, is the 11th first-team player to agree a deal with the Spiders this summer.
Experienced across the division with spells at Kilmarnock and Dunfermline as well as two at Raith Rovers, Rutherglen-born Murray has also played for Clyde, Hartlepool, Arbroath and Stenhousemuir.
He said “there’s so much to like” about the set-up at The city Stadium and when the opportunity to join Sean Crighton’s squad next term, he jumped at the chance.
Euan said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Queen’s Park.
“Coming to the end of my deal at Raith Rovers there were some things in the background but when I had a conversation with the head-coach here, it was the one that grabbed me – everything from that first phone call.
“It has taken a little bit of time to get it over the line but now I’m over the moon and really excited.
“There’s so much to like about this place.”
After returning from holiday Euan joined pre-season training at Lochinch this week and met his new team-mates.
Euan added: “The first sessions have been tough but that’s to be expected. It’s brilliant to be amongst the group – it’s a young group and that brings its own energy, and brings it back out in me again too.
“It’s a fresh challenge and I’m looking forward to working with these younger lads, trying to improve them while winning games in the Championship alongside good experienced players.
“It was just too good to turn down.
“I have had a good time in this league over a number of years and I hope to bring that and add to it here.
“I have been fortunate to enough to win the league, I’ve finished runner-up with a team which finished seventh the year before, so I know how to compete at the top end of this table and I think that experience can be passed onto these younger lads and help them along the way.”
Sean Crighton was pleased to add the experienced defender to his recruitment drive.
The Queen’s Park head-coach said: “As soon as I got the job and I knew Euan was leaving Raith Rovers he was someone I was very keen to bring in.
“He comes here with a point to prove after being in and out of the Raith team last season.
“I have played against him as a player and a coach, he’s a leader, he’s been a captain at Kilmarnock and Dunfermline and he’s exactly the type of character I want to bring into my dressing room.
“He’s aggressive, he can score goals, he can defend the box and is good with the ball at his feet so he is an all-round player who brings everything I’m looking for and I’m delighted he is coming on board.”
