Walker Buehler Pulled Early As Red Sox Lose To Mariners

The Boston Red Sox six-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday when they were trounced by the Seattle Mariners 8-0.

Walker Buehler was bested by the Mariners, allowing eight hits, eight earned runs, and two walks in 3 1/3 innings. The 93-pitch effort was the third time in his last four outings that he allowed five runs or more.

The problems started for Buehler in the second inning. Following an RBI double that plated Seattle’s first run, he walked J.P. Crawford and Julio Rodríguez to load the bases.

One pitch later, Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh connected on a first-pitch changeup and drove it 370 feet for a grand slam, which gave Seattle a 5-0 lead.

Raleigh was far from finished. With two runners on and one out in the fourth inning, he stepped to the plate, and drove the fourth pitch of the at-bat past a diving Abraham Toro for a two-run double. Seattle added another run in the inning and took a commanding 8-0 lead.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox offense was lulled to sleep in a dominant seven-inning performance from Mariners starter Bryan Woo. The 25-year-old right-hander allowed one hit and two walks, while striking out six and left the game after 86 pitches and an 8-0 lead. That would be all Seattle needed to earn a victory.

The Red Sox and Mariners will finish the three-game series Wednesday afternoon. Garrett Crochet (6-4) will oppose Luis Castillo (4-4) in the series finale.
