Ex-Patriot Gets Into Hilariously Weird Beef With Deion Sanders

0 32

Asante Samuel is a self-proclaimed “professional (expletive) talker,” but the former New England Patriots might have bit off more than he can chew.

Samuel is well known for taking shots at Bill Belichick whenever he gets the chance, but the 44-year-old Friday set his sights on Deion Sanders. The two-time Super Bowl champion called out the Colorado head coach’s “foolishness” for mocking the T-step, a technique where the cornerback turns their hips so their foot points at a target.

Sanders ripped the technique since it seemed contradictory to the backpedal and would slow down your momentum. Samuel disagreed and called an NFL Network video featuring Sanders “comedy” while prompting his school, “The Art of the Interception.” The callout was quickly seen by the former All-Pro cornerback.

“Sir. Foolish,” Sanders posted on X. “Lololol God bless u my brother. Tell them what this really about sir. U forever taking a shot at the sky. Mickey Andrews is Responsible for teaching us what I teach and it sure seemed like it worked for us. Peace be Still.”

Andrews was a longtime defensive coordinator at Florida State, where Sanders went to college. Coaches like him and true ball knowers can debate the merits of the T-step, but Samuel didn’t let Sanders get the final jab.

Samuel challenged Sanders to compare the 57-year-old’s best break to his T-step. That led the former All-Pro to post highlights of his best interceptions coming off a T-step, which seemed bizarre but was a nice trip down memory lane.

The social media posts didn’t stop as Samuel started to engage with people who either agreed with him or wanted to argue with him.

“In the media eyes,” Samuel posted in response to someone saying he’s not a top-10 corner. “But the facts will tell you differently but you’re just another brainwashed victim.”

Samuel went as far as to show a picture comparing his stats to Sanders’. For those curious, Samuel had 51 interceptions — seven in the playoffs — in 153 games, and Sanders had 53 interceptions — five in the playoffs — in 188 games. You might suggest context matters but not to Samuel.

“Another guy who doesn’t know the facts,” Samuel quote tweeted. “How many game winning interception do I have? How many game changing, momentum changing interceptions do I have? I suggest you go research… more than you ever imagined.”

Don’t get us wrong, Samuel was great for the Patriots, minus the dropped interception in Super Bowl XLII. But it was a weird and funny sight to see how much the 2003 fourth-round pick was having a one-sided beef against Sanders.

“Deion been hating on me since I started balling. Facts!” Samuel posted on X. “Go listen to him speak on my interceptions in the games he covered.”

Samuel’s social media posts began Friday, and he still was posting about the argument Saturday. It seems like a silly thing that should be dropped but to each their own.
