NFL Insider Shreds Coaching Market For Bill Belichick’s Future

Bill Belichick made a commitment to North Carolina and appears ready to keep it.

Multiple NFL teams, including Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady, reportedly reached out to Belichick to start the coaching cycle to gauge interest on returning to the pro level. Instead, the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach remains out on the recruiting trail to strengthen the Tar Heels and begin his tenure in the 2025 season.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport took shots at teams that he believes should have been more aggressive in hiring Belichick a year ago when he parted ways with the New England Patriots.

“Where the heck was this last year?” Rapoport asked on “The Insiders” Wednesday. “Belichick was actually free last year. … It feels like teams missed their window a little bit. Belichick was literally a free agent last year.”

Rapoport added: “He was right there, the greatest coach of all time. Now a year later you want to talk to him? Do you want to just pick his brain or do you want to really hire him? I feel like teams missed their window and that still feels odd to me given last year, this is what is should have been like.”

Belichick’s future now heads into a competitive ACC where he hopes to bring the Tar Heels back to a higher level of contention.
