Match Preview: Lancaster City (A)

AFC Fylde begin their pre-season schedule with a visit to Northern Premier League Premier Division side Lancaster City at The Giant Axe on Friday night, kick-off 7pm.

Chris Beech’s Coasters head to the home of the Dolly Blues for a friendly, as preparations kickstart for the upcoming 2024/25 Vanarama National League campaign.

The game will provide an opportunity for the Fylde squad to gain valuable minutes in the first of eight friendly fixtures.

Lancaster finished their last campaign with a ninth place finish, winning 18, drawing eight and losing 14 of their 40 matches, earning 62 points.

Playing their football in the seventh-tier of the pyramid, Lancaster will pose the opening challenge of the summer.

The Manager: Chris Willcock

Manager Chris Willcock has a vast amount of experience within the non-league game and was appointed as Lancaster boss in January.

Willcock has previously managed Mossley, Glossop North End, Ramsbottom United, Workington AFC and Stalybridge Celtic prior to becoming the Dolly Blues boss.

Willcock guided Glossop to promotion to the NPL Division One North as champions of the North West Counties Premier Division in 2014/15.

The Derbyshire outfit also won the North-West Counties League Cup and were runners up of the FA Vase in the same season

During his playing career across a variety of North-West based non-league clubs, Willcock played for Flixton, Warrington Town, Altrincham, Netherfield (now Kendal Town), Leigh, Mossley and Ramsbottom United.

Having managed Stalybridge Celtic during the 2022/23 campaign, Willcock replaced Mark Fell as permanent City boss in January, as they finished ninth.
