Report: Spurs are locked in a four-way battle for £20m-rated star this summer

According to The Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in the thick of a major four-way battle for the signature of Lille striker Jonathan David this summer.

Several outlets over the last couple of weeks have talked up Tottenham’s interest in David, with Football Insider even claiming a few days ago that the Lilywhites have already reached out to the striker’s representatives regarding a summer switch to N17.

The Guardian have now become the latest publication to report on the striker’s future, explaining that Tottenham are keen to add more variety to their attack and have identified the Lille star as a target.

It is explained that many in the Spurs’ recruitment department are big admirers of David and that the North London club have already begun exploring a move for him.

However, it is revealed that they have to see off competition from Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham to land the centre-forward.

Like Spurs, the other three Premier League sides have also allegedly made checks on the Canadian international’s availability over recent days.

The report explains that West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is particularly keen on landing the player since he wants to add more firepower to his frontline.

However, it is stated that David’s wage demands might be a roadblock for the Hammers, who are first expected to sign defensive reinforcements before pushing ahead with a move for the Lille star.

The Guardian assert that since the former Gent man only has a year left to run on his deal, he could be available for a fee as low as £20m.

A player of David’s quality and goalscoring pedigree is rarely available for such a modest fee, which is why it is not surprising to see a whole host of clubs joining the queue for the Canadian’s signature.

It is perhaps up to Ange to work his magic and convince the striker that the current Tottenham set-up would be the ideal fit for the player of his attributes.
