Phillies Injury Updates: Bryce Harper getting closer to return

0 3
Bryce Harper (right elbow contusion) is progressing.
  • Bryce Harper (right elbow contusion)
  • Status: Not in the lineup for June 1 game vs. Brewers
  • Bryce Harper was removed in the first inning of the May 27 game against the Atlanta Braves after getting hit by a 95 mph fastball from Spencer Strider in the right elbow. Harper was in a lot of pain, but did not suffer a fracture.
  • Harper has been out of the Phillies starting lineup for five consecutive games. Manager Rob Thomson said that he will do “full pregame activities” before Sunday’s series finale against the Brewers. He took swings for the first time since the hit-by-pitch on Saturday. — Last updated on June 1 by Destiny Lugardo

  • Aaron Nola (right ankle sprain)
  • Status: 15-day IL
  • Aaron Nola is on the injured list for the first time since 2017 with a right ankle sprain. He suffered the injury while doing agility work in the outfield of Steinbrenner Field during the Rays’ series in Tampa. The Phillies were worried about Nola overcompensating for the injury, leading to a change in mechanics — and perhaps a more serious injury. Nola could use a reset. He has a 6.16 ERA in nine starts.
  • Nola is throwing “an extended” bullpen session on Sunday, June 1. He could progress to facing live hitters. He will likely need a rehab assignment before returning to the big leagues. — Last updated on June 1 by Destiny Lugardo
