happy day 2 of the Clase Era

After last night’s six-run win over the Cincinnati Reds, the Mariners are looking to make it 2-0 in the Jonatan Clase era. A win today would give the M’s their first series win of the fledgling season.

Lineups:

Logan Gilbert will be spearheading the effort, fresh off his 7.2 inning effort in Toronto last week. So far this year he’s been trying out a new cutter, and he’s found some both early success and pitfalls with it. ZAM has you covered with the details.

Lineup wise, it’s a bit of an interesting one, as Luke Raley is getting the start at first base, giving Ty France the day off. Otherwise, its a similar lineup to the one that put 9 runs on the board last night. We’ll see if they have the same momentum in tonight’s game.

On the Reds side of things, Santiago Espinal is taking over at third base for Jeimer Candelario, who has come down with an illness. Espinal has had a slow start to the year, with just 4 hits in his last 10 games.

Game Information:

Game Time: 6:40pm PT

TV: ROOT Sports, with Dave Sims and Mike Blowers.

Radio: 710am KIRO Seattle Sports, with Rick Rizzs and Aaron Goldsmith.

Today in Mariners history:

  • 1992 - The Mariners accidentally submit a lineup without a designated hitter, forcing them to hit with the pitcher. They lost by one run.
  • 2009 - Ichiro breaks the all-time Japanese hit record with his 3,086th career hit across NPB and MLB.
  • 2023 - Luis Castillo takes perfect game into the 7th inning and Jarred Kelenic drives in the Mariners only run, while making a diving catch to save a run in a 1-0 win against Colorado.
