Suncoast’s Fiore snatches 2A state girls weightlifting Olympic title
Suncoast senior Anna Fiore captured the Class 2A Olympic state title in the 110-pound weight class at the FHSAA girls weightlifting state championship at RP Funding Center in Lakeland on Saturday.
The Olympic category included the combined total of the clean-and-jerk and snatch. The traditional competition featured the bench press and clean-and-jerk.
Fiore recorded a 290 total in the Olympic competition. She had a 155 in the clean-and-jerk and 135 in the snatch. She matched her personal record in both categories. She also placed fifth in the traditional competition with a 275 total.
Fiore previously finished as the state runner-up in the Olympic competition with a 280 total during her junior campaign.
“I was extremely proud of myself,” she said. “I knew this was the goal after finishing second at states last year. I wanted to work hard and have the right mindset.”
Fiore had placed first in the Olympic category at the regional championship. She also had earned first in both categories at the district championship.
Fiore placed first last May at the Florida championship in the 17U age division for the 49kg weight class. She also placed second at the USA Weightlifting Nationals in Colorado Springs last June.
“I started weightlifting my freshman year,” she said. “The coaches have believed in me. I have been very passionate about it.”
Suncoast senior Angelina Belanger placed third in the Olympic category in the 154-pound weight class and also placed fifth in traditional. Senior Nicolette Kafouros placed fourth in the traditional competition in the 129-pound weight class and earned sixth in the Olympic category.
Boynton Beach’s Christina Rameau finished ninth during the traditional competition in the 101-pound weight class. Dr. Joaquin Garcia’s Celia Castro placed ninth during the traditional category in the 183-pound weight division.
The other state qualifiers in Class 2A included Jana Tadiaman (Suncoast, 101), Sophia Gonzalez (Archbishop McCarthy, 139), Sophia Marrale (Archbishop McCarthy, 139), Andrea Gonzalez (Suncoast, 154) and Paige Levitz (Dr. Joaquin Garcia, 199).
Palm Beach Central’s Egan earns 3rd in 3A Olympic
Palm Beach Central’s Jayda Egan placed third in the Olympic competition in the 119-pound weight class with a 295 total. Kimberly Berg placed eighth in traditional in the 199-pound weight division and finished ninth in the Olympic category.
Dwyer’s Emelie Lewis placed fifth in the Olympic competition in the 101-pound weight division. Racheal Cemerci finished seventh in the 169-pound weight division in the Olympic category and placed ninth in traditional. Sharlyssa Amaya (183) placed ninth in the 183-pound weight class in the Olympic competition and finished 10th in traditional.
Wellington’s Danielle Newell competed in the 110-pound weight class and placed 10th in traditional.
The other state qualifiers in Class 3A consisted of Maleena Rodriguez (Royal Palm Beach, 110) Ianna Mcclean (Dwyer, 110), Kyla Chardon (Dwyer, 119), Morgan Lury (Jupiter, 169), Emma Johnson (Wellington,183), Zora Banks (Dwyer, 199) and Maile Manriquez (Wellington, Unlimited).
Pace captured the Class 3A state championship in both the traditional and Olympic competition. Leesburg won the Class 2A state title in both categories. Suwannee (Live Oak) earned the Class 1A state championship in both competitions.
