Macrohon gives PH weightlifing its 2nd gold

KRISTEL Macrohon gave Philippine weightlifting its second gold medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games in the women’s 71kg event on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Macrohon, 23, lifted 216 kg after registering 93 kg in the snatch and 123 kg in clean and jerk to bag the gold. Vietnamese Nguyen Thi Van was a close second with 214 kg after tallying 92 kg in snatch and 122 kg in clean and jerk for the silver medal.
Ramadani Tsabitha of Indonesia settled for bronze with 203 overall (93 in snatch and 203 in clean and jerk) despite placing second in snatch over her Vietnamese foe.
The Philippines copped its second gold after Hidilyn Diaz topped the women’s 55 kg event. JOSEF T. RAMOS
