Armenian officer with amputated limbs named world armwrestling champion

An Armenian army officer with amputated limbs has won the multiple world champion’s title in the Armwrestling Cup for the Disabled . 


The competitions held in Rumia, Poland between November 18 and 21, brought Sargis Stepanyan two gold medals in two different weight classes (75kg and 80kg). He also won bronze in weightlifting competitions.


Stepanyan, a major of the Armed Forces of Armenia, lost two lower and one upper limb in military operations neutralizing an Azerbaijani subversive attack back in 2014.  He joined the fighting to rescue a friend.
