Paralympics Swimmer Liz Johnson Makes Splash at Kingston School

Liz Johnson

Lucky KRSC swimmers who are pupils at The Kingston Academy (TKA) secondary school in Kingston, were treated to a surprise visit by Paralympian swimming medallist Liz Johnson last week. Liz brought some of her collection of medals and led an assembly on resilience.  Liz’s message was that you should never give up on your dreams and that it’s not just talent but hard work and training that gets you to the Olympic Games, and she would know all about that.

Liz Johnson has cerebral palsy and started swimming aged 3. She was selected for team GB at the age of just 14, and was a medallist at 3 Paralympic Games in 2004, 2008 and 2012, plus World Championships, and European Championships.  She was forced to retire from swimming in the run up to Rio this year, but featured on Channel 4 as a commentator for the 2016 Paralympic Games. What an inspiration to all our swimmers and for all the children at the school.
