Champions League Women: Olympiacos handed Sabadell challenge after quarterfinal draw
Only one of the two the most successful clubs in Europe, seven-time winners Sabadell and three-time champions Olympiacos, will make the Final Four as the two sides were drawn against each other in the Champions League Women Quarterfinals.
2025/26 Champions League Women
Quarterfinal draw
(Leg 1: 11 April & Leg 2: 16 May)
CN Sabadell (ESP) v Olympiacos Piraeus (GRE)
CN Mataro (ESP) v SIS Roma (ITA)
FTC-Telekom (HUN) v UVSE-Helia D (HUN)
CN St Andreu (ESP) v Vouliagmeni NC (GRE)
Approaching the draw for the Champions League Women quarterfinals, all eyes were on Sabadell – the team that have played in 11 of the past 13 finals (including all of the last four), lifting the trophy seven times, but this season they went through some struggles and after winning only twice in regular time, they finished runners-up in the Group Stage, something that has barely ever happened to the Spaniards in the past. It meant that one of the group winners, all eying Final Four spots, would have to take them on in the quarterfinals.
And Olympiacos were handed this tremendous challenge and set up the absolute highlight of the four fixtures.
The two sides have clashed four times for the trophy (2015, 2019, 2022, 2024 – it’s 2-2 in this contest), and they played an epic semi-final match last spring where Sabadell managed to beat the Greeks in Piraeus. And back in 2021, the last time Sabadell missed the F4, they fell to Olympiacos in the same quarterfinal stage.
The other Spanish v Greek duel also promises sheer excitement as title-holders St Andreu will have a showdown with Vouliagmeni, the team that managed to break Olympiacos’ home winning streak in the Greek league.
One Hungarian team will qualify for the finals as the two advancing sides were paired against each other – indeed, Fradi and UVSE have a common history, the two clubs in football are the fiercest rivals, so the matches in the pool are also labelled derbies.
Last but not least, Mataro, which handed defeats to Sabadell in the Group Stage, will play against Italy’s only hope, SIS Roma.
The Spanish team are big favourites here and there is a good chance we’ll see more than one Spanish team in the Final Four, just like in the last three editions, if not three, like in 2024.
