Logo launch and ambassadors mark 300 days until start of European Aquatics Championships Paris 2026
Organisers of the European Aquatics Championships Paris 2026 marked 300 days to go until the start of this centenary event by unveiling the event logo (above).
The reveal took place at a press conference held at the headquarters of the Ile-de-France Region in the presence of the Championships stakeholders – the Region, the Metropolis, Seine-Saint-Denis and the French Swimming Federation (FFN).
Also present were five French ambassadors of the Championships which will run from July 31 to August 16 next year.
Two were retired swimmers – backstroker and five-times world gold medallist Camille Lacourt and Laure Manaudou, who won gold, silver and bronze at the Athens 2004 Olympics and three world titles.
The three others represented differing aquatics events – artistic swimmer Virginie Dedieu, who won three world solo titles and duet bronze at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, diver Alexis Jandard, who won 3m synchro gold at last year’s European Aquatics Championships, and open water swimmer Marc-Antoine Olivier, twice world gold medallist and bronze medallist at the Rio 2016 Games.
All spoke of their pride and emotion in promoting this major event for French and European swimming.
“For many years we took part in the biggest competitions in foreign countries because we didn’t have a pool capable of hosting this kind of event,” explained Manaudou.
“Today French swimmers are able to evolve in front of their public and family.”
The presentation also included a promotional clip of the event produced by the Willie Beamen agency and featuring the voice-over of journalist Olivia Leray.
Around 50 European national federations are due to be present in Paris for Championships which first took place at Budapest in 1926.
Over 16 days of competition, more than 1,100 athletes will compete for medals in front of more than 100,000 spectators and millions of television viewers across Europe and around the world.
Artistic swimming and diving will begin on July 31, with open water swimming getting underway on August 4 before the high diving on August 8 and 9.
Swimming, in the Paris La Defense Arena specially built for last year’s Olympics, will run from August 10 to 16.
