Venue and date confirmed for men’s 2025 European water polo Super Cup final

On Wednesday, 8th October, Budapest will become the battleground for two water polo giants as Champions League kings FTC-Telekom take on Euro Cup conquerors Pro Recco in the men’s 2025 European Super Cup Final.

FTC-Telekom won the last two editions of the Champions League and only lost two games en route to their respective triumphs, one per season across all competitions, in 90 encounters.

Euro Cup winners Pro Recco lifted the Champions League trophy three times in a row, between 2021-2023, before Fradi ended their dominance in a thrilling final in 2024.

Recco, the most successful club in Champions League history with 11 titles, made headlines last season by stepping down to the Euro Cup amidst financial restructuring.

However, the move proved fruitful as they powered through the tournament to lift the trophy and add the only piece of previously missing silverware to their glittering cabinet.

This summer, Recco have been actively rebuilding, bolstering their squad with exciting new talent and elite players – most notably Spanish world champion Alvaro Granados.

The club are clearly setting their sights high and the game against FTC-Telekom will provide a suitable test as they prepare for their return to the top table of European water polo.

Fradi have so far opted to keep their core squad of winners together, as they look to secure more trophies in the coming season – starting at home in Budapest.

The Super Cup final always carries significant historical weight and this season’s final will see the competition’s two most successful teams go head-to-head. 

Recco lead the way with nine titles, while FTC-Telekom follow closely behind in second with five.

Interestingly, both teams have only suffered one single defeat in Super Cup finals – a statistic that will, of course, have to change on 8th October.
