Singapore 2025: Pauline Pfeif wins first-ever world medal following thrilling Women’s 10m Platform final
Germany’s Pauline Pfeif produced the performance of her career to take the silver medal in the Women’s 10m Platform final at the World Aquatics Championships 2025 in Singapore, as she maintained her consistency through the rounds to take to the podium for the first time.
The 23-year-old came into the competition having competed at major interntional championships prior, but never having a taste of silverware.
The OCBC Aquatic Centre in the country was the place where that would change, though. In the face of intense competition as always from the Chinese, North Korean and Canadian athletes, Pfieif never wavered – battling through the rounds to come away with the glory.
She came into the final following similarly-impressive heats and semi-finals positions of fourth and third respectively, and continued in the same vein when the five-dive list began.
With all-but-one of her dives coming with a difficulty of 3 or above, her calm demeanour helped her through the rounds, as well as vocal support from the German team in the stands.
With two solid opening dives, including a score of 78.40 for her Inward 3 ½ Somersaults Tuck (407C), which saw her in third place with three dives to go.
With China’s Peiling Xie faltering, and a number of divers producing sporadic moments of brilliance Pfeif kept her cool and continued to execute controlled performances – hitting two further near-70 scores to see her creep up another place to second following the penultimate round of dives.
Across that fifth round, there were a number of 70+ scores, and even a small handful of efforts exceeding that threshold, which made challenges to the medals. Despite this pressure, Pfeif equalled her best score of the final – executing a intricate Armstand Back 2 Somersaults 1 ½ Twists Free (6243D) to once again record a score of 78.40 and see her comfortably into the silver medal position on a total score of 367.10.
“I am not sure how I feel.” She told World Aquatics following her dives. “I’ve never dreamed of almost beating China. I’m a mess emotionally right now. It’s just amazing. I’m so, so happy. I won’t complain about anything. I’m just happy, relieved, and really emotional right now.
I think I have to process it, because it is so much on me right now, and everyone wants to know (how I feel), and I’m not sure about it. I’m really happy for Germany. I’m really happy that I can get Germany a medal.”
Italy’s Sarah Jodoin Di Maria finished ninth in the event, with her Inward 3 ½ Somersaults Tuck (407C) also being her best dive of the event in round three, giving her a score of 75.20 and contributing to her total of 317.90.
