Day 3 Report – Irish National Youth and Senior Championships

Day three of the 2025 Irish Summer National Youth and Senior Championships took place today in Dublin with twenty-six gold medals handed out throughout an exciting day of action.

 

The Open 1500m Freestyle took place this afternoon with Harry McGlashan of Lurgan coming home first in the 15yrs race, clocking a time of 17:47.43. Tadgh O’Brien (Dolphin) secured first place in the 16yrs 1500m Freestyle, finishing in 16:34.59. Paddy Cuddihy of Kilkenny took the win in the 17yrs race with a time of 16:48.72. Daragh Horgan from the National Centre Limerick claimed the title in the Open 18 years 1500m Freestyle, posting a time of 16:24.43. Leander swimmer Gannon Robertson topped the podium in the 19 yrs, finishing in 17:42.34.

 

The Open 15 years & Over 50m Backstroke got this evening underway with David O’Loughlin of UCD claiming the national title in a time of 26.36. While European U23 swimmer, Maria Godden (National Centre Limerick) took first place in the Female 15 years & Over 50m Backstroke, finishing in 29.02.

 

Baltazar Allende of Templeogue claimed victory in the15yrs Open 100m Freestyle, clocking 52.60. Miks O’Flaherty from Breifne topped the podium in the 16yrs, with a time of 53.53. Reuben Alty (Larne) was back on the podium, this time securing gold in the 17yrs in 52.16. Zac Holmes went 52.46 to bring the 18yrs gold to Limerick. While Danny Morgan of National Centre Dublin delivered the fastest time in 19 years & Over 100m Freestyle, winning in 50.95.

 

Yifei Li of Laois Marlins was the winner of the 15yrs Female 100m Freestyle with a time of 1:00.21. Lexi Dunne (Dolphin) claimed the title in the 16yrs 100m Freestyle, posting 58.29. Ava Jones of Portmarnock continued to impress, taking first place in the 17yrs with a time of 58.62. While Paris Olympian, Victoria Catterson (National Centre Dublin) triumphed in the 18 years & over, recording a time of 55.90.

 

The Open 200m Breaststroke was the penultimate event of night three with the 15yrs standing on the blocks first. Beau McCabe of Trojan delivered a commanding swim to take gold in the 16yrs, stopping the clock at 2:25.17. In the Open 17yrs, Alan Karchenko from Banbridge led the field with a strong performance, finishing first in 2:26.63. Christian O’Brien (Athlone) edged out the competition in the 18 yrs, winning in a time of 2:25.07 after a tightly contested race. Liam O’Connor, representing National Centre Dublin, claimed the title in the 19 yrs & over, touching in an impressive 2:18.06.

 

On the women’s side, Grace Eyre of Bangor took top honours in the 15 yrs Female 200m Breaststroke, clocking 2:47.00. Allanah Keane from Coolmine was the standout performer in the 16 yrs, finishing first in 2:42.77. In the 17 yrs, Niamh Connery of Shark produced a dominant swim to win the event in 2:31.70. While Grace Davison of Ards topped the podium again, this time in the 18 yrs & over, securing the win with a time of 2:31.63.

 

Earlier today, Coolmine ensured the gold did not have far to travel, after they claimed victory in the Open 15 years & Over 800m Freestyle Relay, finishing with a time of 7:54.49.
