European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup Leg 3 in Paris adopting range of measures as part of Aquatics Social Responsibility programme

The European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup Leg 3, which will take place in Paris on July 25, will be adopting a wide-ranging series of new sustainability measures.

European Aquatics, the French Swimming Federation and COCEN 26 are committed to setting a benchmark for aquatics events by delivering a set of sustainable practices drawn from the Sustainability and Legacy Program within EA’s Aquatics Social Responsibility (ASR) initiative.

The measures – which are aligned with the sustainability goals and policies of the French capital, aim to:

*Minimise the environmental impact of the 2025 European Aquatics events

*Foster social and economic legacy for the benefit of the host local and wider community

*Inspire the local and wider community to adopt healthy and active styles through the Aquatics Social Responsibility Strategy

*Promote the sustainable development goals as a catalyst for sustainable development through sports

These aspirations are manifested in five key areas of priority: Green Task Force; Sustainable Fun Zone; Eliminate Plastic; Waste Management and Solidarity Ticketing.

Organisers in Paris will be carrying out initiatives in four of these five areas as solidarity ticketing is not applicable for this event.

Dedicated volunteers will promote sustainable, eco-friendly behaviours within competition, media and VIP areas, as well as engaging with the general public.

They will be in contact with the cleaning team to ensure a safe and clean area. Organisers have planned to have a short introduction meeting with each stakeholder at their arrival on site to inform them about these environmental commitments.

A sustainable Fun Zone will be available to spectators featuring food trucks, animations and awareness-raising.

In a bid to eliminate plastics, bioplastic bottles and glasses will be used for athlete’s refuelling. Discussions have also been underway with the City of Paris over the provision of water fountains on site.

Close collaboration between different departments within the organising body will ensure that effective waste management measures will be in place.

Organisers will also be adopting additional measures in the areas of transport and infrastructure.

The official hotel will be only a five-minute walk from the competition venue, which will hugely reduce the event’s carbon footprint.

Close collaboration with the City of Paris has also ensured that organisers will be able to re-use existent infrastructure as well as utilising other temporary facilities including a small stand.

Our organisations recognise that maintaining a clean environment and conserving water are essential for ensuring a healthy and sustainable world, which is crucial for the well-being of athletes and society.

We are also aware that achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals requires significant and transformative actions to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030.

We aim to make a positive contribution to the promotion of a sustainable future for aquatics, therefore all participants, team members, staff, volunteers and spectators are encouraged to support a joint ambition and commitment to sustainability by embarking on a journey to reduce their individual carbon footprint.
