The Return to Normal (Nearly)

0 7

Normal training resumes Tuesday 31 August and we couldn’t be more excited! We are looking forward to getting back to a positive environment, training hard, developing great skills and competing brilliantly. As swimming coaches, we know what a positive attitude can achieve and rather than look back over our shoulders at the recent difficult past we are going to help you keep a bright future in clear focus so that you all have a real chance of achieving your ambitions. The Club’s squad restructure now kicks off and we are delighted to welcome so many new members into our swimming “family”.

Surrey Sports Park – Guildford Spectrum – Charterhouse School

We have had confirmation from Surrey Sports Park, the Guildford Spectrum and Charterhouse School that all Covid restrictions are being removed, however advice is still to use hand sanitizer and be cautious in busy areas and if in doubt wear a mask as Covid is still very much in the community.

At both facilities

-You can enter through the front entrances

-No more queuing outside to be called in

-Showers available

-Changing rooms available to change into and out of swimwear (you no longer have to arrive “beach ready”)

-Spectators can return

The return of spectators during training sessions has been thoroughly discussed by the Management Team and Coaches. Frankly we have seen a real improvement in training attitudes when parents have not been present in the balcony. Both swimmers and coaches have been less distracted, maintaining a sharper focus on the work. To help us create and maintain the best possible training environment we ask that you minimise your time watching the sessions.

Aldershot Garrison – Cranmore School – Guildford High School – Notre Dame School – St Catherine’s School

Please note that these facilities have decided to keep their full Covid restrictions in place for the time being.  We will update members with any changes as they arise.

Competitions

Over the coming weeks the coaches of the competitive squads will be having squad meetings and outlining their gala plans for the forthcoming season. All High-Performance swimmers should ensure they are available for selection for the National Arena Swimming League:

9 October

13 November

11 December

 Venues to be confirmed

Before the senior league starts in October there is the national final of the National Arena Junior Swimming League to be held in Coventry 19 September. Guildford City will compete as the number one seed against 7 other clubs from around the country!

Looking forward to seeing you all back in the water!

Richard Garfield

Director of Swimming

Notes

It is no longer necessary to complete the ‘Members Health Declaration Form’; however, please submit the Covid Incident Form if you or your close contacts are affected by any Covid related matters.
