Hippos in the Wey – Update [ZIM Hippo]

Morning all. And then there were three. We have another madman joining us for the whole trip. Welcome to the Hippos Jason Gaines-Burrill And his Wife Sue who will be doing land support for us

This morning I spent the time mapping the route and I got tired just trying to map it!!!!

The total distance according to the maps is 31.5 km of paddleboarding and here is a breakdown of the route and the distance to the locks

• Godalming Wharf to Cattershall Lock 0.75 Km
• Cattershall Lock to Unstead lock – 2.82km (2.05km from previous lock)
• Unstead lock to St catherines lock – 4.91km (2.09km from previous lock)
• St Catherines lock to Millmead lock – 6.7km (1.79km from previous lock)
• Millmead Lock to Stokes Lock – 10.47 km (3.77km from previous lock)
• Stoke Lock to Bowers Lock – 12.38km (1.91km from previous lock)
• Bowers Lock to Triggs lock – 15.74km (3.36km from previous lock)
• Triggs lock to Worsfold Gates – 16.72km (0,98km from previous lock)
• Worsfold Gates to Papercourt lock – 19.2km (2.53km from previous lock)
• Papercourt to Newark Lock – 20.46km (1.21km from previous lock)
• Newark lock to Walsham gates – 21.41km (0.95km from previous lock)
• Walsham gates to Pyrford Lock – 23.01km (1.6km from previous lock)
• Pyrford lock to New Haw Lock – 27.24km (4,23km from previous lock)
• New haw Lock to Coxes lock – 28.57km (1.33km from previous lock)
• Coxes Lock to Town Lock – 29.64km ((1.07km from previous lock)
• Town Lock to Thames Lock – 30.79km (1.15km from previous lock)
• Thames lock to Shepperton Lock – 31.4km (0.6km from previous lock)

So There will be a whole lot of paddling, maybe some swimming along the wey and grumpiness towards the end. As we are throwing this all together with very little Lead up time, I will keep posting on my webpage www.zimhippo.co.uk

If you have a paddleboard or any other craft, come and join us on the wey at any point during the day. Based on the above distances, you can work out where we are likely to be. We will be travelling between 4 – 4.5km per hour. We would love if you could join us for some of our adventure

I think the only part where following us will be difficult is the stretch through Guildford town centre. There is a big car park near Millmead lock where you can park then walk down towards St Catherines lock. I will put more parking areas up soon.
