Chiltern League Rd 2 – 2019 plus much more!

0 5

DSC carried on their Chiltern League campaign with a fantastic 3rd place position overall! Held at the Tiddenfoot Pool in Leighton Buzzard on Saturday 16th March 2019.  This was largely the same squad as in round 1 but this time of course with some experience behind them – not such a nervous 2nd round…

DSC were swimming against Kings Langley, Henley, Flitwick Dolphins, Leighton Buzzard and Hemel Hempstead – a tough draw! Chiltern League is as always a ‘no faster than’ gala, where speeding tickets can be issued and no points won. An extremely difficult league, since all swimmers are taught to race as fast as they can. This being a C grade gala, they cannot go too fast, so it is imperative in order to gain maximum points, they stay within the speed limits. Also for the first time the events are not age categorised, so you could find a 13 yr old swimmer in an event with a 25 yr old athlete!

The gala had a tremendous atmosphere from the outset, and even at the half way point the teams were only separated by a few points. The relays particularly at the end, were very exciting with the Dunstable parents in the spectator gallery in full voice. The team enjoyed 7 1st place positions and 11 2nd place positions, but unfortunately DSC were too fast on 4 occasions. Overjoyed that this time there were no DQ’s.

The overall points at the end of the gala were as follows;

1st place – Leighton Buzzard – 211
2nd place – Flitwick Dolphins – 203

3rd place – Dunstable – 179

4th place – Kings Langley – 149
5th place – Henley – 125
6th place – Hemel Hempstead – 121

All DSC swimmers tried their very best on the night. Swimmers of the gala went to Amy Shaw and Joshua Hamm for their outstanding contribution to the gala – well done to both of them.

Round 3 will be held on 6th April 2019 venue – tbc – Good luck to the team!

On the same night a small DSC squad went across to Inspire in Luton to compete in Harpenden’s Frantic 50’s event.  It is what it’s title suggests – just the four 50m events which were extremely welcome.  Quite of few of our swimmers have been knocking on the door of 50m regional qualifying times for some weeks.  Delighted to report that we have 3 of our swimmers who successfully achieved RQT’s.  Ollie Ellison (16) in his 50m Freestyle in a time of 26.63 PB also gaining 2 more PB’s at this meet, Oliver Bradshaw (12) in his 50m breaststroke in a time of 42.04 PB his 2nd RQT for the juniors and finally Rhianne Carrick (14) in her 50m breaststroke in a time of 38.41 PB her first RQT!  We also saw Bryony Mathias .4 off her 50m freestyle RQT – we all wish her the very best in achieving her goal.  PB’s at this meet also came from Callum Shepherd, Daniel Tuffnell, Jennny Davis, Jessica Kefford, Jessica Medlicott and Annabella Vasallo-Todaro.  Massive well done all!

Finally DSC’s senior captain Maia Morgan competed at the Central Milton Keynes meet, swimming the 400m freestyle 5.20.49 PB and 50m breaststroke events 37.78.  Brilliant outcome securing two silver medals and a brand new pb in the 400m free as Maia had never swam it before competitively – well done!

DSC now turn their attention to Wycombe long course, Luton Level 1 meet both for regional qualification, and of course 3rd round of Chiltern League – Good luck all!
