Giants lose 96th game after Moore puts them in 8-0 hole

0

PHOENIX - In his darkest moments, Matt Moore could not have envisioned a worse way to go into the winter than Tuesday night's 11-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Moore's 2,875th and (presumably) final pitch of the year landed in he swimming-pool area at Chase Field, a J.D. Martinez grand slam in the second inning.

Moore's final start in his first full season with the Giants, by any measure a terrible year, ended after he got just four outs while allowing eight runs (seven earned). Martinez already had six RBIs, having hit a two-run double in the first inning.

The Giants lost their 96th game, matching the 1984 team for the third-worst in franchise history.
