Making up for “time off”…

0

After last weekend, it felt great to abscond to Ireland for Marc’s wedding…and what a weekend for it. Ireland is green for a reason – but this weekend it was bright green, painted in glorious sunshine. The water was so, so, so tempting and I felt so, so, so guilty for taking a boat from Kenmare Pier to Dromquinna Manor, rather than swimming the 4 kilometres.

But the entire wedding was a glorious celebration and who could regret missing a couple of swims in Hythe/Dover to be there?

Well today (Monday) the guilty finally caught up with me and with the forecast being for 28°C and light winds from the East, it was time to take a days holiday, get in the car and head back to Seaford. At least I could catch up one of my missed swims!

My son, Daniel, came to support and it turns out he is far more open to “special” feed requests than Emma and the Dover Beach Crew…my new customised hourly feeding schedule was as follows:

#2: Bounce energy ball
#3: Toasted cheese and onion sandwich and Jelly Babies
#4: Hot chocolate and 1 banana
#5: Fresh mango and Bounce ball
#6: Banana and Bakewell tart

I doubt Nick will approve of the nutritional value of this plan. But the mischievous requests certainly helped with my motivation – and 6 hours was soon completed despite increasing wind and tides by the end.
