Queen’s Park v Raith Rovers – Match Preview

0 3

RAITH ROVERS are visitors to The city Stadium in the penultimate home match of the regular season.

Queen’s Park ensured they would not finish tenth with a win over Ross County in front of the BBC Scotland cameras on Friday night – a result which also had the same impact on Raith Rovers.

Both teams now sit on 39 points with spots in the play-offs at both ends of the William Hill Championship table still possible with four games left.

Aidan Connolly headed the winner

With that in mind there is still plenty to play for and while The Spiders have been in good form since the last time the teams met in the KDM Evolution Trophy, Rovers are too and won the competition meaning this match was moved.

Points are still at a premium with four games still to play, and while this match is on so too is another which matters to both sides at both ends of the play-off picture – Airdrie v Dunfermline Athletic.

The Season so far...

Raith Rovers hosted the Spiders in the league opener and it was a tight affair – 1-1 and a tale of two penalties.

Since then the Rovers have changed manager, replacing Barry Robson with Dougie Imrie on the back of defeat here on the southside in November.

That match was the first home win of the season – and in many months – for Queen’s Park but more have followed.

Rovers duly won their next home match between the sides and then the KDM Evolution Trophy quarter final ended in a draw with the Fife side progressing on penalties.

Michael Ruth scored the opening goal of the league campaign against Raith.

With two draws and a home win apiece another tight match could be in store for two teams still not mathematically safe from ninth place with four matches to go.
