18yo wonderkid set for Man Utd audition in Ireland, could benefit from midfield drama

0 1

Manchester United announced their 25-man squad yesterday, which travelled to the Republic of Ireland for an intensive training camp.

Diogo Dalot and Tom Heaton were notable absentees due to illness.

Four academy youngsters were part of the squad: Fred Heath, Yuel Helafu, Jim Thwaites and Victor Musa.

Among them, Jim Thwaites stands out as the most exciting prospect. He is widely regarded as one of the brightest talents emerging from Carrington.

The 2007-born is a central midfielder by trade. He made his under-18s debut in 2023 when he was only 15 and his under-21 debut came when he was 17.

Renowned for his dead-ball expertise, Thwaites has built a growing reputation through his stunning direct free-kicks and pinpoint deliveries from corners.

Technically gifted and composed under pressure, he combines press resistance with the vision to unlock defences through incisive passing.

His exceptional football intelligence sets him apart, and working closely with interim head coach Michael Carrick could further accelerate his development.

This four-day camp presents a golden opportunity for Carrick to unlock his potential and prepare him for a pivotal pre-season tour ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Thwaites will have to build his physical strength to cope with the relentless demands of Premier League football.

However, history shows that players with a lean frame can still thrive at the highest level, carving out legendary careers through sheer quality and intelligence.

With his immense talent and mindset, Thwaites has all the tools to follow that very path and establish himself among the elite.

United are set for a major overhaul in midfield this summer, with Casemiro set to leave. Manuel Ugarte could also be offloaded after failing to impress.

The Red Devils are expected to bring in two new midfielders this summer but could be forced to look internally for a third midfield option, potentially giving a breakthrough to a rising academy talent.
